    Is DT final coat final?

I guess it’s just the bewildering array of finishing options that’s confusing me but I’m just wondering what the recommendation is for DT final coat.

Is this the very last thing that goes on the guitar before assembly and playing the thing, or do people apply anything else like wax or polish? (Or does that lead to being sent to the naughty shed?)

DT Final coat is the 3rd layer of finish in the DT process (base stain, Intensifier, Final Coat).

From my not so good experience with the stuff it should be similar to layers of top clear coats as if applied by wipe on poly, sprayed acrylic, wipe on Tru Oil, etc.

The tricky part is not getting too many built up tacky or not fully cured layers, and never, ever be tempted to use 0000 steel wool to do any scuff sanding as that stuff can quickly ruin everything if still the slightest bit green/not fully cured.

You needs lots of patience when using DT.

Ok, so the only thing it needs after the final coat is time, right?

Yes Sam, in a nutshell you are right.

I usually put on one very thin layer at a time and leave at least 7 to 14 days drying time per coat. After about 3 to 4 layers, I will gently wet sand with 600 grit for smooth out then 1500 grit being very careful not to sand through to the intensifying coat. I then repeat the above process until I get the final layer that I want.

I can say that I've never actually achieved satisfaction for me personally as I prefer a harder final coat such as tru oil. But that's my personal preference.
