It’s a set neck. The fretboard overhangs the body, hence my plan to finish the top first, then glue the neck, then finish the body and neck...

4 coats of Coolangatta gold and I’m pretty happy. I don’t know what effect more coats will have, and whether to start with the intensifier once this has dried (and how many coats of that I’ll need)

Bit late on the scene but reckon that looks pretty good as is and wouldn't contemplate a burst if you have never done one before.

The lighter parts on top LHS of above shot are similar to area near lower bridge post location plus around PUP cavity. From a distance it would be very hard to pick.

As for the finish, need to take your time with DT to allow proper curing and CG intensifier coats will make a difference. Maybe 2 intensifier coats might be enough as you don't want too much of a thickness as that could cause grief when doing top coats and final polish.

    Cheers, Waz

Hmm... thanks for the balance! I was getting geared up to try the burst but it is looking better with each coat and I don’t want to ruin it. That tele over on that other thread did give me some confidence too...

I’m away on holiday in a week so I think I’ll defer that decision till I get back...

Need plenty of practice runs on scrap timber before diving in on the almost finished body.

I personally would not have the courage to do so and as stated before it doesn't look that bad to deserve a burst IMO.

Need to consider what to use and whether it will be compatible with DT?

After a bit of thought, I’ve decided to make up a cardboard dummy body and cut out a heap of ‘tops’ from butchers paper so that I can practice my technique. If I feel like I can reliably get the effect I want, I’ll go go it but if not, I’ll accept the imperfection (just call it ‘character)

I’m not after a heavy burst, really just some darkening around the very edge, I’m not into the Gibson teardrop style.

I saw a suggestion to set up a lazy Susan arrangement, that’s a great idea so will do that for sure.

Regarding compatibility, does anyone know of any known brands that definitely work on DT? I guess that goes for the clear too... I wonder if someone has a compatibility list somewhere...
