    I was very pleasantly surprised at how well it served as an emergency mic for an acoustic guitar as well.
    Yes, the AKG website says it's suitable for mic'ing strings, horns and piano. Probably because of it's super cardioid pattern.
    Having versatility aside from being well regarded vocal mic is a bonus.

    I am mainly using the Sennheiser MD421 for playing/recording saxophone into.
    It has a 4 stage dial on the shank which reads S - - M.
    'S' is for speech and rolls off the lows.
    I remember handing it to some bloke to do a speech mid-way during a gig.
    I was surprised to see him studiously roll the dial to 'S' before speaking (obviously a professional speaker methinks).

    I've gone all Rode right now, even though I now only own 3 mics.
