Completely new to kit building. Slightly overwhelmed. Might need more help than I thought.
Main thing I am currently worried about is the veneer. Should I or should I not sand it as it’s quite thin...

Hi and welcome.
Best to start a build diary rather than ask tech questions in this section.
However, no, the veneer is 0.6mm thick at best. At most, do a light drag sand (almost no pressure) with P400 grit to take off any loose fibres. But if you plan to stain the top with a water based stain, then that will raise the grain again, so it's really best to wait until you've stained before sanding.
If you want to try and 'pop' the grain first with a black or dark colour stain, then you can sand back very lightly (I've done it myself), but I do mean very lightly, before adding the main colour on.
And check the top for glue marks.
But do start a build diary for asking more complex questions in.
Hello Quinnetic from another new kit builder in the UK.
Fender Starcaster, very nice, will add that to my list of potential second builds.
You will find nothing but great advice, patience and humour here.
Friendliest forum I have been on - as Simon says, start a build log then ask away !
Welcome! Enjoy the ride!
