    Had a bash.

Rather than waiting....I went back through what WAZ and Weirdy have said and wired it up.

I split the red and white leads from the MM pickup...one to either side on the middle connectors of the push pull pot....the bit above the normal pot....the black to the normal hot input connector and the green and bare to the earth.

I think I have them on the wrong side.....pull up and get both coils....but who cares it works.

With no jack socket and it hanging by tape I plugged into my Roland 120 and away we went.

First it is lots quieter than the pre-amp...volume fixed that. Second I love the neck jazz bass pickup...such grunt from chinese PUP....nice.

Balancing the volumes I find a great sound at about 50% of each volume.....many options here.

I also found out why I had this push pull pot spare...so scratchy and noisy...spray not helping....replaced one from a job I think.

I do think as it is raining here again...Rocksmith time....Mister Mister...broken wings first up I think.

Weirdy.....let me know what I should be doing mate.....and if I put a second push pull in...how would I wire that to get the four options you spoke of???? Your ideas are absorbed into the sponge of my BASS brain. Thanks.

Yep...see why the push pull pot was in my old stuff drawer....it does all sorts of weird stuff...drops out etc.

Oh well RP order is in...two push pulls in the order....just in case....but starting with just one for the MM to split to a single(rear) coil.

I’ll do a quick sketch for you shortly that should give you some options. I won’t have time to do proper diagrams for a while.

To get all combinations from the pbg mm style pup you probably need 2 push/pull switches or a mini dpdt that gives you series (normal hb mode) split to front, and split to rear, which is how the mini works on mine.
Was playing my MMB4 last night and the rear coil is the weaker thinnest sound. Played around with pre amp and with just a small amount of boost one one and cut on the other it provided some nice and useable sounds. Not sure if we are using same brand of pre amp but it might be worth 2nd look if you could be bothered.

Quick very rough sketches, but hopefully they’re clear enough to make sense of.

Top diagram on this is the overall 2V 2T layout with the push/pull set up to switch both MM coils between series and parallel. Below that are alternative push/pull configs to switch from series to split coil 1 or coil 2 (one of the split coils will hum cancel with the Jazz the other won’t, you’ll need to test to see which is which).

With two push/pulls you can link them to give you all four options of the MM pup: coils in series, coils in parallel, split coil 1, split coil 2.

    Thanks Guys.

Waz and weirdy.....thanks for the help.

Initially I will try one push pull in the volume position on the MM side and the JB side standard with a V and a T.

Back to work tomorrow.....RP order made....3 mini pots and 1 push pull.

A wiring harness to be made from that....

Weirdy......the diagram I followed has the bottom row of pins connected.....the black wire on the middle row I connected the white wire from the MM pickup. The white lead on the diagram on the middle row I connected the red wire from the MM pickup.

The other wires connected as per the diagram.....i.e...JB pickup connected to its volume and tone....then the push pull and tone through to the jack socket.

Have I crossed things up...as I get both coils when the push pull is UP and only one when it is down....the bridge row....or have I dropped to series/parallel or something?

Oh weirdy.....forgot to say thank you for your work...can understand the diagrams easily.

Think I may order a second push/pull when I get back and do the big one.

With the way you've wired it (by your description) you'll be getting the MM coils in series when 'up' and the 'coil 1' split (red and green pair) when 'down'. Essentially a convoluted and sort of inverted version of the 'Alternate' coil 1 split on the sketch.

Edit: if you’re buying parts you could always get a third push/pull, that way you could use that as the J neck volume and you could have neck + bridge series/parallel switching too. All the options you’d ever want.

    Thanks again for your ideas.

Maybe I should just do that.

So I will need 3 x push pull and one tone pot....ha ha ha.

Think i will do that...you know me.

If you have it in your pencil...could your drop a quick piccy of that one please.

    Thank You again.
