Thank you for your oiling method. I gather from reading the Tru Oil Thread in Finishing Your Guitar that wet sanding uses water with a drop of detergent followed by wiping down with a clean cloth. I’m liking the results people are getting with the oils and I’m favouring this approach to finish mine. Thanks again.

As a first-time user of it, I'm finding Tru-Oil easy to use. It's not as quick or immediate as spraying, but I can't do that for at least another 2-3 months when the weather warms up, so it means I can build a guitar in the winter. I probably should have used at least two coats of the Tru-Oil sealer, as I've spent a bit of time just adding layers to fill-in sinkage into the grain, but with a veneer top, you don't want to spend too much time sanding the sealer back to a flat finish. But I'll do at least two coats of that when I get to putting the finish on the ESB-4 (once I've routed the pickup cavities).

The first few coats of Tru-Oil will take up some stain from the body, so beware runs down the sides and onto the back with those coats. Mask up if necessary especially if you've got different top and side colours. I ended up scraping coloured Tru-Oil marks off the bindings a couple of times.

That's why I brush on the first couple of Tru Oil coats to seal in the stain and provide an initial layer to then rag on more coats as you build the layers.

Heaps of polishing and wiring and stringing.

Just sooooooper fun.

My niece was over this afternoon and took it for a run through the paces.
So nice to watch someone really enjoy the guitar !!

Surprised with the weight? How does that compare with the Tele Custom?

It's not that heavy, certainly lighter than a normal Tele, Strat or Les Paul. That solid centre block provides most of the weight in the body.

those little vox amp plugs are pretty good, I use mine for testing wiring too
