Nice Classy build Andrew. Classic Gibbo beauty.

I have been resisting the urge to build one of these, but seeing yours makes resistance that little bit harder.

And back to the ES-1G. This guitar has been fantastic to play, but I was never quite happy with the headstock. So, off with the tuners! I reshaped the top with some small files, then sanded back the face to remove the old logo. I will then re-dye with black FW (the colortone I used wasn't quite dark enough) and use same logo style as on my LP-Jnr which (in my opinion) is a more discreet design. Whilst I'm at it I will also pick up a set of Gotoh SG301-04 tuning keys to replace the stock ones.

Then I will chuck in a pair of Tonerider humbuckers for good measure. I wired in the original pups to enable an easy upgrade.

    Nice one Andrew

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

    ES-1G Reborn

    Small update.

Headstock reshaped, re stained & finished with satin poly finish. I've wacked in the Tonerider pups and reinstalled machine heads so I could do some work on the nut. All set up for 10's which being a bit heavier guage gives a nice tone. Sounds like a real blues rock beast now. This will all come off again when decal applied & new tuners turn up. I'll finish over the decal with some aerosol nitro.

This is still my #1 favourite kit and still prefer to play this instrument over my 'branded' ones.. it just feels nice.

good work Ponch where you been hiding ? Nice upgrades. Are they Tonerider Rocksongs ? should have a great sound. Headstock looks sweet and new tuners this will be a great beast to play.
Did you coil split the humbuckers ? I could imagine that would be a tough job getting the larger push/pull pots in place !

Yep Rocksongs. No coil splitting, standard pots were hard enough to deal with! So where have I been hiding? Primarily in my workshop.. have a backlog of projects I'm revisiting for nut upgrades etc, nearly cleared the deck then back onto my TL-1 Esquire!
