All in one piece now and looking good but... open chords especially the low E and A strings sound a bit crappy. I have tinkered with the action and intonation and stuff. I do have to make some adjustments to the nut, do I need to get the strings deeper in it, the strings are just the ones that come rolled up with the kit not the slinkys.

Hi Fuzzy, had to put sunnies on as Kermit the Bass on the right was blinding me. Does it glow in the dark? Looks like it almost could.

With the nut action there will probably be something on the web somewhere about ideal string heights and a lot of it comes down to personal preference and comfort. Most folks tend to go as low as possible as that is generally more comfortable plus also helps with better intonation. General rule of thumb tends to be no more than a business card thickness at 1st fret and you could measure that to then check against where the strings currently sit as that should give you an idea of how much needs to come off. If it looks uniform across the nut maybe removal and filing the base down a bit might be easier then trying to file down individual string slots.

    Cheers, Waz

Absolutely beautiful guitar Fuzzy - and you really need lead shielding to protect it from the radiation of the bass

Haha yeah I was looking for a cheap bass to muck about on since I'm not much of a bass player and that "caught my eye". according to the website it is atomic green so I have to put on my radiation suit to pick it up. Not sure what the fret board is, something plasticy.

Oh yeah Waz. The strings are way high at the first fret so I am going to sand the nut and hope that is the source of my problems.

Hey Fuzz build looks great. As Waz said get a flat piece of scrap wood, glue some 80 grit paper and get a right angle and rub the nut on that (that didn't sound flash did it). The right angle will keep the nut square to the sandpaper. Put a pencil mark on the nut to roughly how much depth you want it to drop and test string height regularly

That green bass is stuck on volume 10 !

cool no worries that's been cut by the resident luthier Dingobass. If your keen you can probably sand off a bit of the edges so its flush with the fingerboard, or it may be the angle of the photo, but usually they are bit proud.

By the looks the low E (thicker) string slot could be a bit deeper. You can use an old E string like dental floss and lower it a bit.
