EDIT: I had a look round and yeah, I didn't realize quilted maple could get so cool. Mindblowing.

    OK on with the show.

Printer ink seems tricky to buy locally, everyone want to sell you a cartridge and not bottled ink.

So off to the local artist supply for a very pleasant surprise - bottled art ink. Water based, in the exact colour I wanted, cheaper than printer ink, and I suspect better quality.

Better still, the squeezer dropper gives great control of ink placement on the pad or direct onto the body of the guitar, both styles seemed to work well.

The body with the first treatment, not enough ink and a bit patchy:

    Crappy iphone pics , sorry.

Rub back, used 220 grit, and it came up very smooth, hoping it would give some bite for the ink:

The new ink over the top, much more even and the colour was exactly what I wanted. Used a mixture of onto a pad, and drops directly onto the body. You don't need a lot. Very similar to the colour I mixed originally, covered well and no reactions.

So it will look something like this but glossy:

It will dry for a day or so and I'll see if it needs any touch ups.

Interestingly it soaked into the outside edges a bit more, giving a very subtle burst effect...

You given me ideas to try this ink out !
Interested to see what other colours are available. That dark blue on the outside of the quilted top looks superb - took me 5 mins to find the guitar haha

Thanks Wokka, the middle pic is pretty close in colour to what I got.

The ink was about $16 and easily enough for 3 guitar tops, although I cant see another purple one on the horizon soon, unless she wants a Strat too. I'd budget for a single bottle for a Strat or full body covereage. I could have got red and blue and mixed, giving me more versatility in reuse of the ink, but this one was spot on
