Also, I had some gold humbucker rings sitting around and thought I'd see what they looked like on the spalted top. Turns out they look great (at least IMO), so I've changed my mind (again...) and am going all gold hardware both front and back, but with black cavity covers so they disappear visually into the black body.

Am now thinking gold humbuckers, maybe something like these:

And for the tone/volume knobs, maybe something like these:

    New pickups day

For our wedding anniversary my wife very kindly bought me the gold pickups I wanted from GuitarFetish. Now I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel for this build

Thanks Robin, I’m really happy with how it’s coming so far.

Thanks Simon. I’ll order the knobs, tuners, etc next pay. I’m hopeful it will all look pretty good as a combination.

After a truly insane year I am finally getting around to finishing this kit off, and should be wiring it up next week.

One question though - is it possible to polish the control cavity covers? The back of the guitar is now a nice shiny (if not perfect) black, and the matte plastic really stands out.

Not sure John and would suggest trying some Meguiars polish on an inside bit first just in case it adds swirl scratch marks. Alternatively spraying with several layers of the same clear top coat used and then polished might work.
