Nice....thanks. 😀😀😀
Thanks Adam. Would be nice to see and hear one of these beasts.
As Ozz lives locally I might have to volunteer some help just to see one in the flesh. My mind boggles as to how big the body might be, not to mention the overall weight too.

Weirdy and Waz,
Guys I have been bumping around the interwebs and have found a few photos of double neck bass guitars with only two switches....like this...
http://www.doublenecksg.com/images/2...1381830855.JPG
I have been thinking that leaving the kit looking as it comes from the factory is not a bad thing. I have mentally stepped through my usage of volume and tones on both bass and guitar.....strangely both are normally set to 10 and left alone. I do admit to rolling off volume on humbuckers sometimes on a clean channel....but otherwise both volume and tone are pegged to 11.
So, with that in mind I ask if there is a way to wire this up with the top switch in the PBG wiring diagram set to chose between Bass and Guitar....and the bottom switch to choose which pickup is in use for either Bass or Guitar.....i.e. Neck on the Bass or Bridge on the guitar......but only work with the neck that is selected by the top switch.
I would like to replace the top switch with a Danelectro on/off/on switch....e.g. in middle position.....kill switch. I would also really appreciate some guidance as to which capacitors and pots to use. The standard wiring diagram has the two pots stacked vertically closest to the neck as a master volume and tone for the bass....and the two closest to the bridge stacked volume and tone for the guitar. So no individual volume or tone for each pickups....but each pickup is selectable by a switch and then the volume and tone can be set.
I do intend to use the kit pickups initially.....but will do a pot, caps, vintage wiring, jack, nuts upgrade at time of purchase. The dream is to fit all Tone Rider pickups later on.
If there is a way to do this....I can fit everything into the control cavity and just have to worry about what finish and how I lay it down.
Sad to say.....due to lack of ideas.....and good past experience....I am leaning towards a Wudtone finish.....

Your advice is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.![]()

So, Bass neck volume and tone, Guitar neck voume and tone, and then pickup selector linked to the currently active neck, yes? You'll probably have to go for a 4-pole switch to make that work, either as:
1. Something like a 4-pole neck selector* with a standard pickup selector toggle.
2. A Dano On/Off/On as the neck selector and a 4-pole pickup selector*.
*You should be able to fit a right-angle 4-pole in the control cavity, but would probably need the box style 4-pole for the upper switch cavity.
With option 1 the 4-pole switch controls which pickups are connected to the pickup selector and which pots are connected to output. Option 2 the pickups are all connected to the 4-pole switch which then links to the pots and the Dano switch controls which path goes to output.
As I've said before, 250K's and 047 for bass neck, 500K's and 022 for guitar neck would be pretty much the standard choice. Tweak them once you hear them.
EDIT: Actually, thinking about it, you could make option 2 work with the 4-pole and just a standard 3-way toggle instead of the Dano as the neck selector switch. Wiring the two neck circuits in series across the standard toggle's terminals would allow you to 'short' the neck not in use and short both in the middle position for the 'off'. You would have to wire the grounds a little different but it should work.

Weirdy,
I knew a man could rely on you.Thank you.
This piccy is the front of the body.....

The single hole up under where the Bass bridge would be sited is the one I would like to select Bass or Guitar.
The single hole down towards the neck away from the four volume and tone pots is what I would like to use to select neck or bridge pickups.
Will this work and allow me to choose bass or guitar and then just neck or bridge pickup on whichever neck I select? I would then assume that regardless of pickup selection the volume and tones would act as respective masters.
The pickup selector would need a middle, or both, position to allow both pickups to operate at that same time.
I think this solution will be the least likely to be a pain in the rear. Yes, I understand wires will go all over.....but I think just selecting a neck and use the volume and tone pots that relate to that neck and a pickup selector will be easier to use in the end.
Rather than concentric pots....a third switch....push pull pots or buttons. Toggle for the neck.....toggle for pickups.....master pots.
Will that right angle switch be the one to use down the bottom....and the danelectro up the top......think that will be easier?
Thanks,
Greg
P.S. I have been to the switchcraft site....and grabbed their specs sheet/wiring guide....also went to allparts US site. That right angle toggle has nine poles....wow....what goes where?????

Ah sorry, I forgot the lower switch has a separate cavity like the upper switch, I thought it was part of the pot cavity like an SG... hence why I was suggesting the right-angle 4-pole (which is available here in Oz).
With the separate small lower switch cavity it will need a box style 4-pole like I linked earlier... they're expensive and the only place I know of that has them is GuitarElectronics in the US (so plus shipping costs too). Also, they have a fairly stubby toggle handle, so I prefer the Switchcraft right-angle 4-pole wherever possible. It's up to you. You could go with the box style at a price or maybe modify the lower switch cavity to allow you to use the right-angle 4-pole (they're a big switch though so not sure if a channel from the pot cavity would accomodate it without having to break the surface). It actually only needs to be a 2 pole switch, but I don't know of any 2 pole 3-way toggles for guitar, only 1 (standard) or 4 pole types.
The 4-pole pickup selector would work like this: all 4 pickups are connected to two of the poles, like two standard 3-way toggles but with one handle, so it switches both neck's pups between bridge, middle, neck at the same time. The output from each of the two poles go to their respective volume and tone pots which then goes to the neck selector switch, which selects which set of pots (and pickups) goes to the jack.
Using a Dano switch for the neck selector will mean slightly less wiring, it will only make a connection to output when a neck is selected, there's no connection when in the middle. If, instead, you want to use a standard 3-way for the neck selector it would use a process of shorting the 'off' neck so requires separating your grounds. Essentially, the bridge/tailpiece grounds for each neck along with the pot casings, shielding etc grounds will be on one ground link, while the signal grounds from pickup negatives, volume and tone lugs etc will have separate links to the neck selector switch. We can then short out the inactive neck or short both in the middle position.
Work out what parts you can get and/or are willing to use and we can then work up some diagrams.
Scott.
Wow, that techy switch stuff had my head spinning just trying to keep up.
For the finish that Wudtone Amber shot is on an Ash Body whereas the Beast is Basswood and could turn out a different shade. It is quite expensive stuff too and maybe DT Nullabor Ochre might be a close match? Otherwise the local green shed might have something similar and same goes for the neck colour too.

Ignore it where I've been calling the Switchcraft right-angle switch a 4-pole, I must have a fixation, it's actually a 2 pole (8 lugs plus ground) for double-necks. You need two or more poles on the pickup selector for 'option 2', so if you can get it to fit, the right-angle switch is perfect for that. Otherwise, you'd have to use the 4-pole box type switch I linked earlier or something similar.
Scott.
Okay girls and boys...xmas and new years bills are done. I have insurance for home that comes out Monday....and some time between now and mid February a motorcycle Rego to pay.
Say around end of the month I may have a Behemoth in my sights.
Yes yes yes.
I have been thinking about the wiring....Weirdy.....is it possible to keep all the holes as they are and wire the top switch to select Bass or Guitar. The lower switch to select Neck or Bridge pickup. The top switch would really only need to be a two position....unless a second set of arms grow from me....I can only play one or the other?
The wiring diagram says that the two pots towards the neck are for the Bass....top one for Volume and Bottom one for tone and the same again at the two stacked vertically for the bridge...vol over tone. The pots would only be active when the pickup and or neck is selected.
I was wondering what resistance to use in the pots and the capacitors. I also note that the Bass does not have the mounting holes and earth wire holes drilled. So will I have to earth both necks separately?
I am going to do yellow centre...green outside that....and blue around the edge burst. The back and sides of the body in blue. Back of both necks in Blue. The sides of the headstocks in Green and the faces of the headstones in yellow. Dragon Burst of my design.
I was even thinking of just straight Blue with yellow faces on the headstocks.
I see that PB has Tone rider Jazz Bass Pickups in stock again. May have to sneak upgrade things.....Rocksong black humbuckers for the guitar neck. Switchcraft jack. 2 x TUSQ or Carbon nuts. High mass bass bridge.....maybe. Maybe roller tunematic bridge...maybe.
Finish will be colour from water based stain.....gloss feast watson wipe on polyurethane over the top.
Come on pay checks.![]()
Sounds like a nice plan coming together +1 for the Tonerider jazz pups they are really nice
