Thanks for the tip on Mojotron - and for the advice on size!

Have you heard anything about Oil City pickups? They look to be similar to Mojo.

I have heard the name a couple of times, but not a lot about them. They appear to have a tie-in to Feline Guitars. Probably very good pickups. And of course they do a humbucker sized Gretsch-style pickup.

I came across a pickup maker in Oxford the other day. http://ox4pickups.co.uk/. Just standard humbuckers and P90s, nothing Fenderish or Gretsch like (at the moment anyway). Just thought you might be interested in a local chap if you hadn't known about him before.

And now an update after living with the guitar for three months:

My biggest frustration with this guitar has been the action - the pitch of the neck in relation to the bridge was not right, so even though I could get the action fairly low up to about the 7th fret, it started to rise significantly from the 12th fret on up and the bridge was cranked all the way down. This was nothing that could be solved at the nut or the truss rod. I'm not sure if it was a problem with the construction, or with the minor amount of sanding I had to do to get a good fit. I suspect the latter.

Just as an experiment, I took the original tuneomatic bridge that came with the kit and filed down the bottom where it meets the bobbins. It worked! I managed to get the action at the 12th fret down to 1.5mm with a dead flat neck adjustment. After a bit of selective fret levelling and re-crowning, it's got a nice consistent action for the full length of the neck, and it's now a truly playable guitar. Now I'm going to try the same thing with the roller bridge I got for it.

Yesterday I went into a guitar store and had a play with one of the Gretsch Streamline budget models, and I can truly say I think mine is just as good, which made me fairly proud. I also had a go at a White Falcon - now that's an amazing guitar!
