    Guys,

I am still very keen on seeing how Dingo Tone is standing as a finish. I love the colour coats...it is just the final coat that was not good for me twice now.

Presently I have three guitars nearly finished. 1 water based stain covered with wipe on polyurethane......1 paint from aerosol cans....and one with feast watson prooftint under wipe on poly.

I am finding that I get good results with wipe on poly. Paint takes too long to cure before you can polish and wax the finish.

I really liked Wudtone....and I have located a local source for it.....but it is not cheap. Nearly $50-00 for both a body and neck colourless finish...plus postage...

    http://www.wudtone.com/australia/?wp...eck-colourless
    http://www.wudtone.com/australia/?wp...kit-colourless

Now the same in DT:- just on $55.00.....but postage would be nada if I order it with a kit.

    http://www.pitbullguitars.com/shop/d...it-colourless/

Anybody have an suggestions for the finish for "Nude Dude?"

If I go prooftint I would have to choose a colour.....or I could just go naked....sanded and then finished with wipe on poly. I have both clear gloss and satin finish MinWax. I was thinking that perhaps a satin finish with no colour other than a dark pore filling would like nice.

Plan has now reached a point of maybe....

Can order after Tuesday 22nd Nov.....and that would be kit and finish....rest to come after.

    Wiring:-

    I have been looking around the net....now I see what a standard Jazz Bass setup is....2 x v and 1 x t.

I really think that the concentric pots will give me volume and tone for all four pickups.

A third three way toggle switch....on/off/on...will let me select Bass or Guitar or OFF.

Waz suggested to source better switches.....are the danelectro ones a better option.......but I need on/on/on x 2 for the pickup selectors....and the one as a physical guitar selector.

Weirdy.....if you have the time....can I please impose and ask for some suggestions for how to do this......the initial wiring diagram is a good start......but instead of just 2 x v and 2 x t......I would like 4 x concentrics......would I be better with 500k....and 0.47uf caps?

Thanks guys....keen to get my hands on this one.

Wiring it with 4 concentrics for vol/tone per pup is no problem, it would be like two lots of LP style wiring (but with concentrics instead of separate pots) going to the neck selector and then to the output jack. I'd stick with 2 x 250K concentrics and 0.047/0.068 caps for the bass and 2 x 500K concentrics and 0.022 caps for the guitar. Drawing up a diagram will be no problem.

A Dano switch is a good 'full size' option for on/off/on, albeit limited to the plain metal handle. It just depends on where you are going to locate your switch(es) and what size you want/need it. If you use normal toggle switches for pickup selection in the two existing holes you could then use either a Dano or mini-toggle in the middle of the four pots for the neck switching. It depends on where you want to be reaching... do you want your pickup selectors near each neck's vol & tone controls or have the bass pup selector up in the solitary hole by itself away from the pots etc.
    Scott.

    Weirdly,

I am thinking about using mini pots and putting the extra toggle switch in the middle of the existing control cavity....hoping the mini pots leave enough room.

I also noticed that no earth appears to be predrilled under the bass bridge.

Is it good enough to just ground the lot to the guitar bridge?

I have a couple of looong drill bits....so no hassle.

Thank you for the diagram offer....I will take you up on that as time arrives.

    Get the kit first. 😀

Oh I note you suggest 0.047uf caps with 250k pots for the single coil bass pickups and 0.022uf caps with 500k pots for humbuckers. Even Seymour Duncan now recommend 0.022 with 250 k for single coils and vice versa for the other, am I missing something?

Hi Ozz, for the switches this is the page to look up at Real Parts... http://www.realparts.com.au/electron...-switches.html

I have used the $26 short straight black toggle and guess I ended up paying $12 more per switch just to have them all black otherwise the chrome one beside it is exactly the same for less money. The mini on-off-on switch you found a few days back for $18 is also the one to get to act as neck selector. With Capacitors pretty sure I used 0.022's with humbuckers and 0.047 with single coils? Just order 2 of each and you can swap them around as you go.

For a nude finish you could use just about anything. Not sure how grain filling would go as the face grain on Basswood is usually quite tight and mostly only the edges is where any visible end grain lives that might take some timber mate. I like Andrew Osbourne aka Ponch's current hollow body build diary idea where he is doing a hand rubbed wet sand with Tru Oil and that seems to be acting like a grain filling process whilst also doing the finishing coats. Looks good too for a natural finish.

yes correct , generally .022uF for 500k pots and humbuckers

You can try different values by combining caps - two .022s in series will be .010, two .022s in parallel will be .044uF

Lack of spare funds is a bummer and know it all too well.

If Adam has one in stock there is a fair chance it will still be there after Xmas as I have not seen or heard of one being started anywhere yet.

Hey Waz, they do sell, slowly. We ship a lot overseas to places like Croatia and some Scandinavian countries.

I've got a box (5) here so you should be right..
    Cheers,
