coming along well Euroa, to replace the fret markers and stain the fingerboard ebony would be best remove the frets. If you do it carefully and tag each fret with some tape and number it you may be able to re-use them and knock them back in

Thanks Wokka, I was thinking along the same lines considering how much work I have to do on the fretboard, there is a little pitting on some of the frets so will probably replace them if I go down that track, have you tried removing these block inlays before?

Hi Euroa sounds like a plan be worth replacing the frets. I have never removed the block inlays. Presume you would try drilling near each of the corners and should be able to remove them pry them out with a small screwdriver or blade maybe. You just have to break the glue bond.

hey Euroa spewing the body was leaked on. The gold MOP inlays look unreal and the buffalo horn nuts looks great too (that could be taken the wrong way haha)
What is the plan of attack the remove the existing fret inlays ?
DB posted a good tip couple of days ago before you remove the frets wind the truss rod to give the neck some back bow and there should be less tear out.

My fault with the body Ive seen guys install carpeted shelving for there work in progress, so might have to do that!
(re DBs post) It's a good tip, will be giving them a little heat also with a soldering iron as they're being removed, hopefully the binding wont cause too many issues.
As far as the inlays are concerned, I'll try drilling out near the corners, apply some heat to break the glue bond and then see how they pop out . not too worried as the new ones are a fair bit bigger... the photos don't really do them justice as there is a myriad of color in them, I'll try different light and repost so you guys can see them better.

if you have a set of dental or mechanics picks I found they are good for pulling the inlays up once you had hole through them

Easily found in Supercheap etc, or even the BGS. If you pay more than $10, you're getting ripped off.

Having said that, I bought these, but so many years ago, I can't remember what I paid for them.
