Hi Wokka, the Tele is spray acrylic. Only the primer on so far, but the top coat will be a similar colour. The stickers are for this guitar, racing stripes.

sounds good Andrew, so is the sound file of the PBG-1 you tapping on the pickups ? Is it assembled or you just doing the wiring ?

That is the sound of me hitting the PBG-1 body. It's the only sound I could get out of the guitar at this stage of the build.

Waiting for coats to dry, I decided to experiment with the idea of stencilling a headstock logo with ink.

My wife is a scrap booker, so I tried 4 of her inks, some use a dye, some a pigment, and some both. I sanded and clear neck stained a piece of pine then ran a strip of sign vinyl down the middle and placed the ink right up against the vinyl to see how much it would bleed. After everything was dry and the vinyl taken off, I used DT neck top coat over the whole top.
Conclusions? 1: The vinyl left an invisible film that the DT didn't want to stick to. 2: I'm going to use a cut vinyl logo instead of a stencil. 3: of I do decide to use ink in the future, MFT hybrid ink or Altenew crisp jet black were best and I know excactly where I can find some

Hey Andrew, good test there but as you say would be much easier to cut a vinyl logo or print onto waterslide decal paper.
Id say the adhesive on the vinyl has stuck to the pine and hence the DT won't stick to it

Hi Andrew, Dingotone will definatley go over waterslide decal. I haven't tried vinyl.

I have tried putting DT over stamp pad ink and was informed (and saw) it won't work because you need an oil base. tried mixing linseed oil to the ink...still didn't work. As a fall back, I imagine that you could also handpaint the logo in acrylic or oil based paint?

@Andy40 that is interesting with DT not going over stamp pad ink as it works fine under TO?

Most decal transfer paper kits mention that you need to seal the printed image with a clear acrylic, let that dry for 24 hours or so, and then soak in water to slide on the object which in this case is the headstock, then leave that to dry for at least 24 - 48 hours before applying top coats. Never tried DT top coats due to humidity issues and reading other posts some have resorted to using clear acrylic just on the headstock to cover and protect the transfer paper decal.

Yeah I know re stamp pad ink. If I didn;t try it myself I wouldn't have believed it.

Yeah this is my headstock decal which is a waterslide decal. I did roughly 2 or 3 neck coats of DT, lightly sanded till even I think with 2000 or 1200, then applied the waterslide decal, waited 24 hours then applied another 2 or 3 neck coats of DT, then sanded flat with 2000. Its held up pretty well but you have to be careful when sanding.
