Hey Pest, you are really close, but the brush technique is for the neck finishing kits.
It is best to apply the BMW deep coat with a cloth as many thin coats is the best way to build the colour up.

Ahh.. you should get along with the blokes from 4D guitars... I believe their staining regime includes copious amounts of Drambuie.

Gone with a second coat of deep after 3 days. Looking a lot better now. See how it absorbs by Tuesday but i think it might need a little more sanding before the 3rd deep coat.
Had a blow out with my hanging apparatus. But no biggie.
Neck has come out heaps darker this time, although i almost dunked it in deep.
The neck looks freakin awesome!! To be expected - harder, tighter grained wood. It's all coming together nicely!
Actually i had a look after it dried. It's looking awesome. I will give it a light sand and another coat on Tuesday. But i cant see it soaking to much more in.
I gave it a good sand back. Probably to much.

All my base coats are done and i've added the gold highlights!
It doesn't look exactly as i had imagined and is my fault for initial sanding and furthermore sanding back between coats. But all good because my hollowbody order was completed today. WOOH! its going to look hot because i've made all my mistakes with the sg.
Hopefully you can see the gold in the following images.
I always name my guitars and i was going to call this one the vintage zebra because of the sanding spots and the black and white grain. But now after the gold tint, im thinking the reverse tiger.
Wow runner, that looks like it has been at more than a few club gigs!!! Yea, the gold shows up pretty well there, especially where it is lighter!
