Waz, I have a personal beef with that particular image. That isn't, no matter what the ebay seller in question has to say, a colortone blue. It is from a video using stamp pad ink. See below.

Colortone blue is a lot darker when used in the correct dilution and no where near as 'vivid'.

Well, thanks guys, that came out very good, might try some of that ink on the back and sides leave the front "pale" and a darker back.

I'll drop in to office works and see what they have. My only worry is that it won't take to the basswood.

Hi Pabs, that picture was clipped from DIY Guitars website under 'Color Tone' finishes and appreciate the heads up as I may have gone down that path with some of the colours shown on their website. The Vid looked great and showed how easy that method is.

OH woe! Sorry DB messed the back right up (sides too), it just didn't work out. However thought I would be able to save the front, but, as I was giving it another coat it started to not be as I was expecting.

Sanded the back back to bare wood, the sides as well but not back to bare wood completely. Got some ink from office works, wasn't sure about dilution so full strength, well at least its dark. Diluted the sides bit but defiantly not enough.
So, the back and sides are sort of done, just a little bit of tiding to be done.

Now the front, prepared it then started to apply the bondi, oh oh! oh on! Lucky I'm not a cranky old guy (well that may be debatable) frustrated YES, got the sander out and took all the stain off the front, I must say it sure penetrates,
This time I put the water in my bowl then added the ink, after three tries I thought yep.

It's starting to look finished need to touch up around the edges and in the cut-out bottom bout.


This si what it is looking like, a bright darkish back / sides and a not so bright front.
Sorry about the pic of the neck, will do another one some time.

After I tidy up, wait a few days then a few top coats, that means there is still a chance to mess it up more, uummmm it'll work out.

wow Rick that's a much darker blue you got. So are you going to darken the front to match back/sides ?

Back into it again, I have given up on a A1 job and have decided I have messed around long enough.
So finish coat is the next few coats, maybe 5 or 6 then assembly.

Not what I was going for but I sort of like it and it might look better after a day or to of curing.
I actually sanded sections back to bare wood and restrained bit it still won't take so ... that's it.

Because of the change of finish after doing the head stock it is a slightly different cooker but should still look ok.
Will post that in a later pic next time.

Looked at , what I thought was ok for the headstock, and thought UuuMmm, Looks bad. So decided to re do the headstock. First photo.

Sanded it back and gave it a light coat, now it is looking how I wanted the face of the guitar to look.

Gave the front and sides one coat of try-oil, I'm not too happy with it but will see what it looks like when it cures a while.

Hi Rick, the headstock looks much better and is about the same shade as the body. Was that with bondi blue or the ink ?
