Mr Foster, Perry is not doing the courses anymore, he has spots for ONE more though I think, so it's now or never.

I built 2 kits with no experience and they both finished to be very fun guitars to build, every obstacle leads to a new piece of knowledge,, my second kit (a Strat) has turned out so well it is now my main axe to play!

Alright I'll get to taking some pictures!

As for the Ormsby, I saw that update and it's more than likely taken with how popular he is. I'm still keen on getting a custom shop from him at some point at least

I wanted to ask you guys about this, I thought it could just be lack of coat in certain areas but this patchy kind of thing is happening on the body after the intensifying coat. Has been the same since the first. I thought it was lack of coat in certain areas but the patches seem to move around, any idea, guys?
Colour is coming along great, though, I think!

You can see a bit of that patchiness I was talking about there too

I'll be starting on the neck real soon, too

Wanna bump this because I don't want to proceed just yet, hopefully someone can tell me what's happening with the finish

Edit: Also, Babicz bridge came in the mail today!

It could be different grain density, over sanding, or some kind of glue. If you rough it up a bit before putting on the next coat (or just that part) you might find the stain takes better.

If it's something harder to deal with like glue some people use wire brushes, but I've never done it because I don't have the dexterity or confidence with wood for that kind of thing.

hey Mr Foster, I was getting some similar areas where the finish still didn't look cured where some areas did look dry/cured. With the cooler weather DB recommended more curing time between coats like about 4 days. Keep using super fine steel wool between coats and get the finish nice and smooth before applying next coat. Also the colour should deepen more as it cures I found. There are no drying agents in Dingotone so you have to be patient.
Make sure you cover the bottles as soon as you pour out a bit and use a lint free cloth. Also try and make sure the body is clean of dust/steel wool residue before you apply the next coat. Make sure you shake the bottle really well before pouring into a container.
    Keep at it !
I've recently finished the same build ash ST with tarkine green (see my avatar) and recommend a black hardware upgrade

Thanks for responding Wokka! In the instructional video he suggested just doing light strokes, should I run over it a couple times to try and make it more porous? I've got about 1/4 left in the bottle but I'm sure I can get a couple more coats out of it

I also saw your thread, I was at work when I did so I managed to forget to comment! But it looks pretty stunning! Hope my finish turns out as well as that did.

hey Mr Foster, I'd wait the 4 days curing and go over thoroughly with fine steel wool and run your hand over the body you will know when you can't feel any bumps. With only 2 coats left using sandpaper will probably lose too much colour intensity. You mean you have 1/4 bottle of stain coat left then a full bottle of intensifying coat ?
cheers pretty happy how mine turned out, and it plays really well

Another thing to be mindful of is over working the finish.

Apply thin coats and try not to go over areas you have just applied.
Dont worry too much if you see bits you missed as you will pick these up with subsequent coats.

Babicz bridge? YUMMO! They are, IMHO, the best value for money and supa easy to intonate

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

Digging up an old thread, sorry if this is a no-no!

Finally able to pick this up again, all sorts of crazy things have happened here. Hopefully I can get this done ASAP

Update: I've gotten myself a new finishing kit and using more intensifying coat (Taking in Dingobass' advice, adding thin and as even as possible coats) those areas haven't changed whatsoever, I have a small feeling I botched the sanding or finish application at some point. So I'm wondering if it would be better to use a high grit sandpaper (Between 800 and 1500?) to even it out before adding the top coat
What do you guys think? Should I add new pictures?
