How did you manage direct mount the pickups ?? Did you used the provided screws ?? Normally I need to replace them with wood screws??

Simon has provided some sensible good advice.

It took 3 attempts before I got mine with pickups sitting at the right height. The long J Bass Pickup Mounting screws sounds simplest but there are deep holes on either side where the PUP's are normally mounted on those plastic rings however the part with no thread near the head will be a problem as that will require that hole to be drilled out and then no longer able to be used with a thread.
I hand shaped some maple headstock off cuts to fill the holes so they were flush with base of PUP rout and glued them in place and then drilled separate holes in the PUP mounting lugs and used wood screws with high density foam underneath base of PUP's to provide some way of keeping them level and provide a bit of spring action for setting the height.

There may be photos on my build diary but here are a selection of close-ups that might help to illustrate what was done...

If I was to do this again on another build I would use a strip of metal which is similar in width & thickness as the PUP lugs, drill same sized mounting screw hole so that driving the mounting adjustment screw would create a thread, and screw this mounting plate separately to the bottom of PUP rout cavity. You could use the spring but it still needs the high density foam to prevent PUP sitting at an odd angle.

Hope you get some inspiration and ideas from all of this.

    Cheers, Waz

    Hi all

Here is a demo of my build that came out amazing.

sorry the video wasn't made for here but for a friend I'll do another one in English.

So the built is from a ex a model (ash body maple neck ebony fretboard)

It took me some months of work. Everything home made by me.

    Specs :
    Seymour Duncan nazgul sentinent
    Seymour Duncan liberator
    Push pull solderless potentiometer
Everything coated inside with ground connections a lot of work on ground in the guitar no buzz at all !!!
    Coil split of both pickups
    Frets work done
    Action work also done
Sanded from hours then Paint on tru-oil no stain (the stain I got didn't looked great )
Frets are just inlays brought on internet
Tunomatic and bridge are the one provided

The strings on the guitar are the ones used for intonation needs to be changed by better ones.

Enjoy the video as I said I'll do a new one in English soon to put here.

Again thank you so much for the help you provided me with priceless tips and help.

I'm already thinking about another build but I'm trying to hold my self.

I think I'll add some work on this guitar since honestly it came out like a great piece.

    That turned out very nice.

Top loaded pickups provide a more raw stripped back, almost naked look and from the video it would appear they are well seated and at the right height too. Sounds really good with lots of useable sounds.

    Well done.
