I can answer my own question on this one after a couple of emails with Adam: yep, the optimist in me was right! It is intonation related and they are meant to be offset.

Well it turned out the neck pocket issues were a little more challenging that I thought, and Adam - with the exceptional customer service we’ve all come to know - has offered to replace the kit. You can understand with new kits that it can take a little time to iron out all the bugs back at the factory, so hopefully I’m helping that process.

So it’s back to being a little patient – although it does mean I can continue to work on my aluminium control plate and pickguard skills in the meantime!!

Feeling pretty chuffed with my efforts today! While waiting for the replacement kit I've worked on a potential pickguard. As per the previous post about it, I cut the rough shape with a jigsaw from a 1.6mm aluminium sheet. Today involved a heap of drilling, sanding and filing, before using a green scotchbrite to buff it. The hardest part was the slot for the switch - I used a dremel cutting wheel to get through, then little files to open it up. There's still a fair bit of clean up work required especially the neck pocket at waiting for the neck to match that up right. Also some work with the pickup holes - including drilling for the pickup rings I'll be using - but I'll wait to do a mock build to get eberything lined up. That said, very happy with the results at this point.

Thanks folks, it's been fun working with a new material and getting to understand how to make it work for me! It certainly opens up a world of interesting control plates in the future. I've also found a some RustGuard Clear topcoat spray at the green shed that will seal it from tarnishing, finger oils etc when I'm all done.
