Just for fun I did a little sanding today .. The neck and body are now silky smooth, any smoother and the top coats won't stick! So I'm going to leave the primer to harden up for a few days. Over Easter I'll wire up the switch panel with my new pots and switch and do a test assemble, mark the bridge, tuner and pick guard screw holes and drill them. I was going to do that earlier but was waiting on some 1/4 to 10mm tuner adaptors and they arrived today along with my cloth covered wire. The pick guard is going to need some adjusting as its a 3 ply RealParts one and the Chinese switch panel is a bit over sized. Any tips on "adjusting" pick guards will be appreciated ;D

sometimes you need a bit of something to hold the 10mm adaptors in place. did you get vintage tuners?

My 3 ply pickguard turned up today as well. I too need to modify. looks like i'll need to replug some of the holes as well. I've used the dremel to reshape a pickguard before and it wasn't a hassle.

Hi Dedman, plans sound good. So you have to make the half circle for the control cover on the pickguard a little larger ?
I'd put it in a vice or clamp the pickguard close to the edge so it doesn't flex much. Use some rag or cardboard to protect the pickguard. Mark the new shape on the PG and carefully use a rounded file to reshape it. Then I'd use sandpaper to smooth the edge

Thanks Wokka, I had thought of using a little drum sander on the Dremel but had second thoughts due to heat/melting. Slow and steady with the paper/files I think will be the answer.

Hey Dedman, the dremel should be ok but on a lower speed, as you say if the pickguard material gets too hot it will warp.

Probably be safest to file and sandpaper it to shape

So, busy dry build today. Fitted the tuners and they lined up spot on.
Fitted the neck, adjusted the pick guard to fit and mounted the front PUP, fitted the bone nut (not glued in yet as I forgot to buy glue :P ) Fitted the bridge, found I had to use the adjusting screws from the PBG in the Wilkinson to get intonation set up right...went to install the rear PUP..Oh Oh. Tone riders are wider and longer that PBG ones. Aren't I glad I did a pre top coat test! (I didn't have the toneriders when I did the first test. I dont own a router so...sanding drums on the drill it was. OK, lets wire this up. DOH some dickhead ordered a 4 way switch instead of a 3!
