got all the holes drilled between cavities on the weekend and did a bit more shaping. Applied walnut timbermate, looks like a mess in the pic. Will sand it off tonight and see how it looks.
The marri grain is very coarse and the dark line grain are like a little channel. I wanted ebony timbermate but the green shed had run out !

I usually find the green shed is out-of-stock of anything I want..... quick question, how do you sand this back (grade of paper etc), I always find the Timbermate drops out of where it should be?

hey Ponch, I'll probably use 120 grit on the oribital and when the bulk of it's sanded off use a 180 grit orbital on slow speed.
If some of the timbermate falls out I'll try apply more I spose and might have to sand it by hand. Presume when an orbital sander is used it heats up the timbermate and is probably more likely to stick to the paper and come out

got the timbermate sanded off lastnight and it went to plan. Used 120 grit orbital to get the bulk off and then a 180 grit orbital paper to get the rest of the timbermate off.
    Here's how its looking.
Will run a 240 grit orbital over it then hand sand to get nice even curves on all the edges.
Then its ready for staining. Thinking using wudtone amber, I don't want a stain too dark. I want the marri grain to be seen clearly

You know you timbermate will take on any colour you put with it, right? Could have mixed some black stain/ink with it to get the ebony effect.

good point Pabs didn't think of that at the time. I'm sure the walnut grain will grow on me plus I think it will darken a bit with stain and clear coats
