Disastrous results after the third clear coat… all the paint crackled and f-ed the finish up… looks like it’s back to square 1 again.
I’ve had to leave home and go to Adelaide for an undetermined amount of time as well so it could be a little while before I can get stuck back into it![]()
bugger Mick thats bad news on both accounts. Loving how this SG was looking.
I know how you feel with the paint rejecting after clear coats, it really sucks.
Hope you can get back onto the project and match the same high quality finish you were at
Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

Man, that sucks. The SG was looking fantastic. Sorry to read about that, Mick.
Second that: what a bastard. After all the great work you put in it's gotta hurt./<\\/p>[]<\\/p>/Quote from lawry on February 26, 2014, 15:52

Look forward to seeing you make good when you get home . . .
Cheers guys, the annoying part was I'd already done 2 good coats of the clear and then it get pear shaped on the third![]()
righto.... back into it!
I spent the day today stripping the shitty clear coat off and taking the finish back down to the primer in places. I shot the thing in another coat of flat black and now that it's dry I've been rubbing it down with some wet and dry ready for (fingers crosses) the final coat tomorrow.... third times the charm!
Here's a shot with the hardware sitting on it and the covers pulled off the humbuckers.

If that cracking is even over the whole guitar it could actually be a great effect. I take it that it's not what you want Mick?
