I've got sawdust sucked too far up my nose! I really should get a dust mask!!
    Progress, progress, Progress.
I just realised you guys haven't seen what the neck looked like when it came out of my makeshift press....
    It was a mess!!

Built myself an improvised vice and started trimming with my coping saw for starters, then a file.

Straight edges came up a treat!

Ignore my couple of issues with the coping saw, these won't exist when I start shaping the design I have!

Panic stations!! I've noticed that when I clamped the head stock to the bench, I placed it over the bolts holding the bench together!!
    Dammit!!

    I grab my template and.....

    Phew!!! All good!!

I then started using my Stanley knife to whittle away the section where it narrows to the headstock, but I just know I'm going to damage either myself, or the neck, so I put that away and get my dremel style tool out.
Using an 80 grit flappy wheel, I think this came out beautifully!!

Thanks Pabs, I got to admit, I was scratching my head there for a bit wondering how I was going to do this!
Now I have a good base to start shaping out the rest of the head stock.

    Just a suggestion...

As this is a somewhat radical (and irreversible) alteration to the headstock it may be wise to 'test' your shape on something else first, just to ensure it works with the tuners, clearances and angles. I'd grab a piece of something softish like pine in the gernal shape of the headstock paddle then do a rough cut of your design to check it works as planned and get some experience with cutting the shape.
    Scott.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.
