Cheers Dedman, I only get a bit of time each weekend to work on it but happy with the progress so far. The wife has already requested I build her one as well so she can learn to play, so probably a HSS or HH STA kit will be the next build.
Yeh Waz, I like the darker shade on the Ash which is the piece underneath. The small maple piece on top I think I wiped on a bit too much dye on because the grain only showed after I used the methylated spirits to remove some of the dye. So I'll have to be careful when staining the quilted maple veneer.
Haha Cork, the shirt unfortunately got sent to the rag pile not long after I got it because it had an argument with some red clothing in the washing machine.
Lol Mark & Simon, it'll probably end up in its rightful state with oil soaked through it because it'll no doubt get used whilst working on my car restoration at some point.

Just a large hammer and a lot of oil...
Usually I don't have a lot of time during the week but I had some spare time tonight so I sanded the body. Needs a little more and it'll be ready for colour.
Also got the switchplate wired up with the upgraded pots, cap and switch. It has been a long time since I used a soldering iron but it came out ok.

Well it's the weekend which means I have more time to get things done.
Got more sanding done and then applied the ebony timbermate to the back, front and sides. I thinned down the timbermate for the top so that the veneer needed less sanding and less risky to sand through it.
After sanding the rear.
Decided to apply just a little more timbermate in a couple areas and then sanded back again.
Then applied the dye to the rear and sides.
And the top.
The colour doesn't look too bad. Next I did the best job I could scraping the bindings, used steel wool to help as well. Not perfect but it's ok for a first go. Then applied first couple coats of sanding sealer.
I'll probably apply another coat of sanding sealer, then sand it back to make sure it's nice and flat then clear coat it.

That’s a great looking blue. Nice work mate
Yesterday I got the frets done. They were actually very close to even and didnt require much work. I also got the sanding sealer sanded and the body is ready for me to spray the clear nitro. Hopefully I've done enough work to get a nice flat surface, particularly with the Ash. However if I can feel a little tiny bit of the grain I'm not too bothered.
I was hoping to spray the first coat of nitro clear today but decided that it was too cold here in Canberra to spray so I went on with adding a couple more coats of tru oil to the neck and gave it a bit of a rub with steel wool to see how it was feeling and then watched the AFL grand final. WCE premiers for 2018!
The neck so far has had 5 coats of tru oil. I'll do only a couple more and then give it a bit of a polish with 0000 steel wool to give it a smooth satin feel and I'll call the neck done as I prefer the satin feel to a high gloss finish.
