First couple of D/tone
It's a bit brighter than I was expecting
Any suggestions on how to make it a bit darker, (not keen on rubbing it all off again)

By darker I presume you mean of the same colour tone?

If so, just keep adding more base stain however if you mean a different colour shade darker, welcome to the unpredictable game we are addicted to called kit building. Rarely does a colour scheme in theory end up the same in reality as the timber used will dictate a lot towards final outcome. Your headstock looks more orange than red which could be lighting in that shot, but if it is a different shade or colour it will need more coats than the body to even things up a bit.

Unfortunately trial and error may be required.

Thanks for the advice.
I was hoping for a darker shade & that some one out there had added a tint to D/tone before.
But the more I look at it the more I like it. So I'll give it a couple more coats & see what happens.

The overall depth will improve a lot with clear coats as well. But as Waz said, I'd probably give it another stain pass if you want it darker.

4 or 5 coats of base stain brings out the best in DT in terms of depth of colour but if happy with 2 or 3 coats no point going any further.

A few coats of Intensifier brings on an amazing appearance, hard to describe but you will know what I mean when you see a couple of coats done.

After one ir two intensifier coats you should see a remarkable difference.
