I was looking for a rustic type of color for the back and neck so I tried some Teak on a small piece of wood and liked it. Unfortunately the color came out way too dark on the guitar. No matter, I will live with it,it’s sort of growing on me. Click image for larger version.

I then gave the top and headstock a couple of coats of blue stain, I’ve always wanted a blue guitar. I hope it’s going to look good with some clear over it.

I reckon you are going to be very pleasantly surprised with that back when you get some final coats on it. I think its going to come up well. Ditto for the blue, thats a wonderful shade. Great work as always!!

Thanks guys, you were 100% correct, this color lightened up to a golden teak after a couple of coats of clear and I’m loving it. I thought it was going to be that dark mission brown color and was thinking of going over with a solid color.

Well, a quick test of parts reveals a small problem, the 5-way switch is too tall for the body thickness of the guitar and I won’t be able to fit the rear cover plate. I have chiseled a small trench to sit it in, about 2 mmm deep. Yep, still sticks up about 3 mm. Looking on the internet I have found a similar switch with folded down terminals, unfortunately the terminals on the supplied switch are part of the circuit board and can’t be folded down. So I went down to my local guitar store and bought the other type for 10 bucks and it fits perfect.

How much clearance under the rear cover plate as those solder joints may need to be very neat and tidy to avoid making contact?

I went through a few different switches on my IB-1 before I found this one. But, if the one you have there just fits it might be an idea to heat shrink all of the connections to make sure it doesn't short out on the back panel.
