Welcome along mate - I think there are a couple of banana benders on the forum - you're in good company. P / J basses are a great place to start - my first was a P Bass - I initially thought I'd miss the second pickup and additional controls - they're now my go to basses.

Thanks Brendan - I usually play a mates Made in Japan Jazz Bass. Seems to do the job but it’s so damn heavy. Figure a P Bass would do most of the same tricks with a bit less weight.

As a complete novice guitar builder with minimal tools/equipment, are the fender style kits generally a bit easier to put together?

    Hello mate
Gotta love a heavy bass, and I have both, the precision is no lighter than the jazz on my shoulder!
I find the precision/ jazz pickup combo the most useful for tones for the stuff I play, for rock I love a straight hot p bass pickup!

Ah, maybe I just need to toughen up a bit!
