hmm.. That looks better.

After the first post here advising me to measure.. Ive now dummy installed and measured 10 times.. Every time thinking more and more that theyre not going to fit.

It looks like my bushings are 8*mm, and pre-drilled holes in the headstock are 10mm.

The vintage tuner bushings are around 8.6mm diameter so if the hole's any bigger than 8.5mm, it's adapter bushing time.

yeah, looks like the kit was all over the place.. Hence the pretty big discount.

Also noticed written on the side of the box - "TL-51 Twist" - I'm really not hoping that means they spotted a twist in the neck. I don't have the best eye for picking out a neck that is not quite straight. But surely I would notice this?? The neck looks pretty straight to me.

.... and its the weekend.. Time to start prepping the body and shaping the neck.

I don't have access to any power tools, so I had to shape the neck with a coping saw. It went... ok

But to save on strokes of the coping saw, I shaped the neck in a Deluxe style.

Also, much like the rest of the stuff I do, I rush.. Ive pretty much in around 3 hours, shaped the neck, sanded back the body and neck from 120 to 1200... and I'm about to start spraying the body.

The neck is not the best shape ive seen.. But hey, with a coping saw and hand sanding, I dont think its too bad.

According to the PBG website, the kit no longer comes with Klusons as standard, so the headstock holes are probably drilled for the larger diameter standard tuners. Measure the tuning hole diameter and if it's around 0mm then you'll definitely need the adapter bushings King Casey linked to. The vintage tuner bushings are around 8.6mm diameter so if the hole's any bigger than 8.5mm, it's adapter bushing time (unless you plug and re-drill the holes to a smaller diameter hole).

There's nothing else that's holding the bushings in apart from friction between the bushing and the wood. It doesn't get any better with the tuner posts inserted (and using the tuners will probably loosen the bushings further. A very slight looseness can be compensated for if you are using a clear lacquer on the neck by running the lacquer into the post holes to reduce the diameter, and a small dab of PVA or Titebond will help keep them in place.

Your neck looks OK to me from the photos, though you could always take a photo looking down the neck from both ends and post them here for opinions.

Not sure if these photos are any good.. Note the heel and the headstock sit flat on the desk.. Doesn't seem to be any 'twist'

Slightly awkward to see as there's not enough depth-of-field on the camera to get both ends of the neck in focus. If there is an issue, it's certainly not a bad one.

The off centre shot angle doesn’t help as there is a small amount of distortion on the edges of the shot that distorts the edges of the neck.

Yeah, sorry. Knew those photos wouldn't suffice. Who would have thought that my phone camera could have produced such a shallow depth of field.

Will pull my camera out on the weekend and get some better shots.
