Just keep practicing and you'll get there mate, you should have seen what my soldering was like when I first started out in electronics, it wasn't anything to crow about, I've been seriously thinking of buying a couple more guitar kits next year after I get that 51 Tele kit later on this year, been seriously thinking of getting a Mosrite style kit and a Rickenbacker style kit.

For a newbie and anyone nervous about potential for electric shocks the 2 watt version would be the way to go and at $195 plus postage seems a fair price. Still needs to be housed in something IMO and when you add the speaker cab that needs to be built you end up at about the same price point as many completed combos on the market loaded with more features too.

Tempted but unlikely to take it on as I am happy with my current amps.

What I would do is buy the construction manual for the Lamington Amp model I wish to build, then buy all the other parts separately so I can make my own Chassis, I'd also make my own cabinet for the chassis out of some 13mm plywood.

But rather than wire it up point-to-point style, I'd make a custom Turret Board for it to mount the caps, resistors, etc on.

Hmmm, maybe not something for the kids at home to try. Might be Ok for you Doc as it sounds like you have plenty of experience with these things. The kits seemed reasonable value with all the parts supplied unless you are seeking other types of valves?

I was having a listen to some of the Lamington demos on YT and discovered a dude with a Train Wreck clone.

Circuits are over on Wattkins.com ( spelling is correct ) in the Tones Per Buck subforum under the thread title of Thrifty Wreck.

You will have to join the forum to get there but there is heaps of good stuff there

A good Celestion or Jensen speaker would work better.

I like Eminece for to optimize quality/$. At least in the US. I like building cabs and you can find any number of designs that are as good or better than commercial cabs.

Careful with the amp though, and take a good look at the cautions. I have thought about it a lot, and solder pretty well, but the difference between wiring a guitar or cab and wiring an amp is that there is nothing in the cab or guitar that can kill you.

Wise words, you can never emphasize enough the importance of safety while working on Valve Guitar amps, since one mistake can have the potential to be very lethal.
