Thread: Double bound surf green Tele. Build #2

  1. #11
The above photo is after having taped off the binding and applying 1 layer of primer

I did a colour test with a gloss finish. I'm pretty happy with how it looks. This hasn't been buffed/ polished either so it should turn up a fair bit shinier than this.

The colour in the photo isn't really representative of the actual colour either. It looks lighter and slightly more green in real life.

Thanks Wokka! And good memory re my name especially considering it's been over a year since my last post I think?!
Yeah not worried at all about the gouge now. Once the primer went on you could never tell it had happened. Lucky I wasn't planning on doing a nice stain though! How many coats of primer do you normally do for solid colours? I did 3 on the test I think and wet sanded in between coats with 1200 grit.

    hey Tim no worries.
3 primer coats should be enough, as long as the colour is solid and there's no grain visible you should be fine to go onto the colour coats.
Depends how much gets sanded off in between coats to flatten the paint

    Hey Tim,
Could you give a bit more info on the setup you used to route the binding? I want to start doing this too but I have no idea what the best set-up is. Is that a dremel I see? And a specific dremel bit? Any more info you can give?
    many thanks,
    Gav.

Looking good and great recovery on the router slip. I'm also interested in the bit used. Luckily I have an old manually locking Dremel..
