I read somewhere that Rickenbacker weren't fond of Chris, because he introduced string Rickys with roundwounds and playing them with a pick. Apparently basses kept getting sent back with the frets and fingerboards chewed up from the strings and needing to be replaced after a lot of amateurs followed his lead.
