Hey Andrew, I will be applying several Tru-Oil coats for the clear coat and a custom deep blue wood stain for the colouring.

Hey Andrew have you got your stain yet? I am doing the exact same thing with a st kit at the moment (some of the guys that have posted to you have been very helpful on my build). The paint store lady where I live was super helpful; however, I seems that tinting clear base stain colours other than the timbery colours isn't an exact science. She mucked about and got my a colour that I was happy with in the end. I took my body in and we rubbed a little into the pickup wells.

    Good luck!

Hey Joseph, no need to sand the body to 2000 grit for a stain, as Andrew said no need to go finer than 400 grit. I'd recommend you do a trial stain of the colour on the body where the pickguard will hide it so you make sure you are happy with the colour

Mate because your staining this it is a good idea to leave the body wood a little rougher, around 400, so that the stain has some tooth to grab in to. Is this the alder kit?
No, this is the ash body kit. But I have left it a bit rough for the stain.

I have finally gotten around to doing something with the kit other than sanding it like a manic... I applied the stain! In total it took 2 coats to reach the depth of colour I was looking for.

Apologies about the crap lighting situation in the photo, I will try to upload a better photo tomorrow.
