    great colour combo!
hate to say it , but the grain on the back looks better than the front...
Nice looking axe all the same.

@Stan - yep you are right on the money. The back looks heaps better! I guess I wont be as worried when the pickguard goes on . I was thinking either red tortoiseshell or red pearloid. They are both in the mail - just waiting for them to arrive for comparison..

    cheers,
    Gav.

    hi guys,

A little more progress this week on the Black Ash Tele. I have basically finished Tru-Oil coats on the neck and it's feeling nice and smooth and fast. I've bunged on my Andy-special headstock decal and that's the neck done and dusted!

I received a red tortoiseshell pickguard in the mail yesterday and did a quick mockup to see what it looks like. It needs some work around the neck to fit it properly, but that's no sweat. I'm waiting on a red pearloid pickgurd from Adam, so once that arrives I'll have to choose between the two of them.

As it is, I think the red tortoiseshell is looking pretty damn nice! I love the colour balance between the black, the red and the amber neck.

When the red pearloid arrives I'll give all you guys a chance to compare and comment! Either way it's shaping up to be either a Mental Wilko Johnston or Introverted Shoegazer - whatever floats your boat .

    cheers,
    Gav.

Tortoise on black is an awesome combination. The pearloid will look cool too though, will stand out more.

    hi guys,

    Decision time. Tortoiseshell or pearloid?

In the photo they look almost identical. In real life the pearloid is a little darker than the tortoiseshell. What do you reckon? I'm preferring the tortoiseshell..

    cheers,
    Gav.

Yep I concur, the pattern on the left one looks a lot more defined.
