Cleaning out the shed today i found the most beautiful green paint for this bass ! So excited this colour is so perfect,
Also found a tin of polyurethane gloss for the bass
So the finish is FREE won't cost me a thing and it'll look amazing 😁😁😁
Did you test to see if the paint and poly are compatible? The last thing you want is to find your perfect paint job ruined by the poly reacting with the paint and crinkling up :\
One other thing to be a bit careful of is the type of paint. I don't know what type of paint that is, but if it looks like it is stored with (and might be?) house paint. You want guitar paint to cure pretty hard. Modern paints and clear coats are a little more elastic than traditional paints (like nitro), which is why it doesn't craze like older guitar and car paints. On the other hand, exterior house paints are at the other end of the spectrum. They are designed to be elastic even after completely curing. This allows them to expand and contract as the temps, humidity and seasons change. It could feel rubbery on a guitar. Also it may not sand well. Once it has completely cured this might not matter as long as your clear coat will stick to it well, since clear coats tend to finish hard. Exterior house paints are typically made not to have clear coats. So you'll want to make sure it will stick.

Well for a start I will be testing the paint / polyurethane clear coats on scrap timber
I will sand it and paint and add clear coats on top and allow it to dry for a few days and see if they play well together ,
The paint is hard wearing acrylic exterior house paint
So it is made to withstand years in the sun and protect wood from moisture.
I have painted some scrap and added some clear polyurethane already and it is dried and hard already (that was yesterday)
I think that the acrylic paint plus polyurethane will give me a strong finish but I will make sure to test on moe scrap timber before I proceed.
I will apply the paint with brush and sand lightly between coats and the polyurethane will be applied with a spray can and will sand and polished it to a high gloss
Got a good feeling it will work out
If this paint is good for a house its surely good enough for a guitar also im just really in love with the colour and don't want to have to compromise and choose something else
I have encountered a problem here i was wondering if you could assist me?
As you can see the space between the string and the edge of the fretboard is different on each side
There is 3mm gap at the 12th fret on E string and
7mm gap on the G string side
How would I go about correcting this?
It says in the pitbull instruction manual that I could sand down the inside of the neck pocket?
I'm worried that I might make things worse
