Many (many) years ago I was involved in rescue boats and helo's. One of the boats I crewed was of timber construction. Every other boat was fibreglass. The sign below hung in the shed and I think it applies equally to guitars:

I have no idea what it is, I suspect black butt or similar. I just love the character of the fissures and pressure distortions in the wood.

At this point it’s all theoretical. Those slabs are 25mm thick so I could do at least two decent tops with it.
My issue with an original design, simply put is designing it.
I have done a couple of original designs that end up looking very Strat or Ibanez RG.

You just make what you want to make.
At the end of the day , it's *your* instrument, and it can be whatever the **** shape you want! If you *realy* want a strat, go for it. If you want to turn it into a space ship, that's kewl too. If you really wanna give it the dirty hillbilly swamp treatment, just sand it and leave it as the block it is.

Yeh, well.. whilst looking for relevant posts for my first build, I got side tracked and fell down the rabbit hole that was "Pinball Wizard". I'm sure the depths of madness have yet to be plumbed
