Ha! I've played one of them. The weird silicone/rubber strings felt as bizarre as they look. Didn't get to plug it in though.

Yhep... I have had the misfourtune to have played one as well... sounded just like red postie rubberbands strung on a timber school ruler...

Haha Geoff, many, many, moons ago the first band I ever joined was as a bass player in a Jazz Quartet. I replaced a guitarist who had one bass string on his otherwise standard guitar. He played bass and guitar (not very well, if I recall correctly) but I never appreciated his skills until many years later. I didn't even know what "comping" was in those days. Knowing what I know (or more correctly, don't know) now, I wish I had half the talent that he had.

    cheers

nice story Robin, so how did this guy play a 1 bass string/5 guitar string axe, does he play the bass notes with his thumb and play some guitar notes/chords with his other fingers ? I think this would be a real challenge !

Don't forget it was many years ago Warren, and as I was replacing him, I didn't get to see him play that much, but pretty much thumb/bass and fingers/guitar. He couldn't comp properly with only an E bass string (really also need an A bass string for flowing chord inversions). So his chords were fairly sparse, but the piano player did most of the rhythm/chords allowing him to add colour and flourishes while laying down a pretty basic bass line.

    Cheers
