Day 3: Part 1
Rosette day! Again, this is also slightly different from my original plans, but that's the beauty of this process. Having said that, this was an idea I had in my stockpile, and Aaron was more than happy to run with it, as it hasn't been done before in his class.
Glued two pieces of blackwood together.


Using a dremel, I routed a shallow channel and inlayed some blackwhite/black purfling using black dyed super glue.


Scraped this flat then cut out the remainder of the rosette, placing it on the sound board to check it out




Routed out the channel for the rosette then enlarged it ever so slightly to insert more b/w/b purfling as a final border
This is a dry run first.

Day 3: Part 2.
A little glue, and we're done!


This is looking magic!!


We then cut in some slots into our sides to accommodate the back braces and glued the back on.




That's day 3 done. Tomorrow I will thickness my top, cut out the sound hole, and start doing my braces for the top. I may get the top glued on tomorrow.

He will jump on your arm if you have food apparently. He has a damaged beak, all the guys that work next door have been looking after him with food. Very inquisitive!

Day 4: Part 1
Lots of fiddly stuff done today.
Got the sound hole cut out, rough cut of the top minus the cutaway, and final thickness done at about 2.8mm. This will come down further when we do our final sanding before finish application




Added some cross grain spruce strips for the back join reinforcement.




Then added some side braces
