Yeah man that's the name I'm stickin' with, I actually used it on the "Blacktop" on the back of the headstock but as I put it on a bit later I didn't post any more pics./<\\/p>[]<\\/p>/Quote from wokkaboy on September 19, 2014, 09:11
nice name Barge, so you going to run with DLG ?
So anyway a little bit of a set back today in the form of me stripping the top back to bare timber.
I'd been having real issues with dust particles sticking to the finish like a magnet so I decided to steel wool a bit of the crap off before the next clear coat, did that then proceeded to wipe down with some Prepsol to get rid of any remaining shit.
Wiped clean (or so I thought), went to shoot another coat only to find the residue from the Prepsol started to react with the nitro and was leaving patches where the lacquer wasn't adhering properly.
In a eureka moment I decided to try and wipe off the still wet patch of lacquer with a bit of the Prepsol only to discover that Presol + wet Nitro is the exact formula for paint stripper and the finish wiped off right down to the timber.
While something like this isn't ideal it's going to give me the opportunity to fill the grain properly (something I should have done from the start) and get a nice smooth surface to work with.
I've also tracked down some satin black nitro so I can go with my original plan of a satin black top.
Luckily the back and sides came out unscathed so all in all I'm taking the positives out of this:-)
Onward and upward.
