I agree Wokka. The problem with the first coat was the DT in the grain underneath and the fact I used general purpose thinner with nitro lacquer (thanks to green shed advice) and 40 PSI at the spray gun. Since then I spoke with an auto painter and was recommended 2P thinner and 10 PSI at the spray gun. It now goes on beautifully. I can't get nitro thinner anywhere (even at auto paint suppliers).

Hi Salo, I like the colour you got out of that one.
I did my ST-1 in Lake Placid Blue Nitro, just have a look at my build diary if you want to see.
I'm a bit of a noob and don't have a compressor, spray etc, so I used aerosols I sourced from Sydney Guitar set ups.
I used Nitro white undercoat, Nitro Lake Placid Blue and clear with a 60's tint over the top (gave it a darker blue). I did the neck just with the 60's tint.

As I used Aerosols, I did not need thinner, but I cannot tell you how many many many coats of nitro went on.
I sprayed a couple of times when humidity was just over 50% and it went to poo so watch that, or you'll have to sand it back and start layering again.

Nice! Now leave it for at least 21 days before you cut and polish it and BOOM! that will be one tasty Guitar

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

@ Tony. I couldn't get any nitro in Perth. It appears the auto paint industry here uses 2 pack and can usually do any colour for you. I got my nitro lake placid blue and clear coat from Guitar Australia.

@ Wokka. It is gloss nitro. I'll give it 48 hours to set and then I will start the w/d sanding and then the buffing process to get that high gloss look. My grandson is already stoked with the look.
