Once worked with a guy who set up a programmer's keyboard for someone in our team - he started with a normal keyboard and removed all the keys except control, C and V - all the keys you need to copy and paste - which he said is all that programmers do.
BTW sorry Fender3x for the threadjack.
Just pulled the trigger. Kit should arrive week after next. Rubbing the Buddha's belly and hoping for straight neck and good pocket. I feel like I can probably do the rest if I can get the neck mounted right.
That said, I would welcome suggestions on finish...want to do something simple, and where the binding won't frustrate me too much. I don't have spray gear, and live in a place where humidity can be a problem. Thinking maybe along the lines of natural or sort of vintage maple color... Suggestions would be very welcome!
Congratulations Rich, and welcome.
I'm a noob that still hasn't finished a kit yet (3 on the go). I've been using the DingoTone colourless finish from the Pitbull site and it really brings out the natural colour of the wood, is really easy to apply and smells good (in an air freshener kind of way, not in a huffing paint kind of way).
Not sure about humidity though. My finishing is currently on hold due to not wanting to risk humidity issues.
Edit: Just realised this doesn't ship outside Australia. Whoops, sorry. Still, welcome aboard!

I saw some youtube on Dingotone. Looks great. Shame that I can't get it here. Hoping I can find something similar on the US market.
Welcome Rich and enjoy the build, lots of great bass builders and players here

Welcome to the Forum mate.
I have a G&L ASAT Special i bought new in 1995, its my No1 guitar.
I love the jumbo single-coil Magnetic Field Design pickups, they are a real blast, wether subtle or gunning it always great tones.
Hi Tony,
My ASAT is by far my fav since I first put my hands on it. Similar vintage to yours ('94).
I modded mine to get single coil as well as HB sound. I also put in switches to turn the caps on the HB-Series setting on and off.
I bought it for the neck, but the range of sounds you can get from those pickups is amazing. Leo was truly a genius with pickups.

Welcome Fender3x, the guys here will go out of there way to help in anyway they can. Have fun building. If you want a natural finish you could try Tru-Oil. It's very popular, and does a great job. If you want vivid bright colours use Angelus leather dye's, so easy to use and works fine with tru oil or acrylic sprays.
Have fun
