Traditional Gun Makers Finishes

Hi All,

I wasn't sure if this should go under finishes...

For those who like to get hard wearing, mirror finishes and deep grain this website explains some of the traditional finishes used in the gun trade. (Gun trade usually refers to high end shotguns and fowling pieces - deadset pieces of art that are completely functional)

Tru Oil does the trick without all the effort taken by the bloke who wrote that article.

But Tru-Oil doesn't give you the colours and colour depth that the traditional finishes do. Some of those stocks look like a pool of tannin stained water over the grain.

A bit like French Polishing vs, Wipe On Poly.
