Hi Weirdbits. I've had a closer look at the humbuckers in the kit and yes I do agree that they are potted as there is traces of wax on the bottom of the pickups.

Scott.
Finally received the beta trail kit for DB's version of lake placid blue. Sanded the front to 1200 because of the paper thin veneer and applied the first coat.

I like the left side but not sure about the right side. Are those glue marks on the bottom and right edges. My first time with DT.
On another issue. I have a TL kit with body painted with nitro. Do have to use nitro clear coat or can I use naughty oil.
Hi Salo, yes those areas where the stain hasn't taken looks like glue.
Do you mean can you use tru oil over nitro paint ? Not sure never tried it, but I'd say nitro clear may only be compatible with nitro paint.

Thanks Wokka. Any suggestions for removing the glue marks. I think you are right with the nitro
I have heard Nitro will continue to gas off, so after applying TO , it will cause peeling.
Hi Salo,
best get a small wire brush (available from the big green shed about $5 - its about the size of a large toothbrush) and carefully brush the glue affected areas. Then a light sand to smooth the cap. Wipe a water dampened cloth over the areas to see if the glue is visible before the next stain coat.

re the HB being wax potted? they have plastic bobbins, i very much doubt they will handle the heat of potting.
I refurbish chinese single coils alot for young blokes out of their Squiers, take out the ceramic magnets put in Alnico charge them up even rewind them at times, but i never pot them for fear of the plastic buckling.
Happy to be proven wrong or if some one has a HB they dont want, willing to put it to the test and repost.
The melting point of wax is far lower than the melting point of abs (the plastic used in the bobbins). As long as you don't heat the wax to an unnecessarily high temp, the pickups will be fine.
