hey Andy looking good and love the exxagerated G type headstock.
I would leave the cap at 320 grit, not worth risking sanding through. As long as you get the bulk of the timbermate off the surface of the cap and it remains in the low points

Good job on the headstock. The exaggerated style reminds me of my Epi Casino. Go carefully on the cap!

    Thanks guys,

I'm think if upgrading some of electronics do you know if any modifications are needed to the body to put in Bourns Mini 500k Audio Taper Pots? Also any recommendations for a toggle switch would be appreciated (and any modifications required)

On my ST-1, the diameter of the pickguard needed to be widened and the shafts were longer than the PBG standard pots so they stuck through the pick guard further. That was easy because i was only dealing with a plastic pickguard.

Lastly I was thinking about putting in some Kluson 3 a Side Keystone Button Tuners with the adaptors. Has anyone done this in the past, were there any issues?

Again on my ST-1 because the holes were a bit wonky I had some issues but not sure about the LP-1SS.

The thread on a Bourns pot is slightly larger so you will have to enlarge the pot holes (lol). An appropriate sized drill bit in reverse will gently widen them, but make sure you have a scrap bit of wood behind or you could get nasty tear out.

The Klusons will need the conversion bushings, but otherwise I see no problems.

Hi Andy, good questions. Upgrading electronics well worth it.
You will need to drill out the 4 pot holes (9.5mm drill from memory but don't quote me !) to fit the bourns pots. Just checked the Pitbull shop and they don't sell a 3 way toggle switch so have a look on the Realtone site or ebay.
With ur longer shafts on the pots on your strat you can fit another nut on the shaft under the pickguard so the knobs don't sit too high.

I think AndrewO used Kluson tuners on a SG build so when he sees this post he can probably confirm that they should fit ok.

Best of luck with the build, its coming along well, hopefully see some Karajini red on soon ?

EDIT great tips Pabs, drill pot holes from the top in reverse slowly to avoid tearout. Drilling from the control cavity side will end in tears ! Scrap wood underneath will help avoid tear out too as Pabs said

Klusons ok, but needed adaptor bushings for 10mm holes (as the Klusons are vintage spec)

Awww you guys are great! thats perfect. It looks like I can do all of those upgrades without too much concern. great drilling tip Pabs too.

@ wokks yup, got a bone nut when I got the kit...tone tone and more tone!

Yeah she's nearly ready for Karajini red! Just going to brush up on some reading on applying Dingotone. We are getting better weather here at the moment that the rest of Oz but it always a bit hot and humid in Brissy this time of year.
