If you are over 6' 6" tall and therefore have extra long fingers, go for it. Sadly I am neither and anything with 6 strings means guitar not bass for me.

Quite the opposite, the Fender has a 30" scale and the neck is very similar width to a Strat

Might have to look into that one day. In the middle of building a 5 string and need to figure that out first before contemplating another string below the low B.

Fender VI is tuned E to E but an octave lower than Guitar.

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

Interesting. How does that compare to a baritone guitar?

The more popular tunings for the Baritone are:
    A perfect fifth A D G C E A, an augmented fourth Bb Eb Ab Db F Bb, a perfect fourth B E A D F♯ B or a major third lower C F Bb Eb G C

I love it when you talk dirty to us DB

Speaking of tuning has anyone tried Robert Fripp's " new standard tuning "

No. I read his Guitar Craft articles and decided I don't take enough drugs to understand him. Either the '60s were "good" to Robert or he is an alien visitor.
    Current:
    GTH-1

    Completed:
    AST-1FB
First Act ME276 (resurrected curb-side find)
    ES-5V

    JBA-4
    TL-1TB
    Scratch Lapsteel
    Meinl DIY Cajon
    Cigar Box lap steel

    Wishing:
    Baritone
Open D/Standard Double 6 twin neck

I'm pretty sure as a player he's an alien but he has a very dry sense of humour
