sounds good Rabbitz, the ash tele kits are a nice bit of gear and from the latest ones I've seen don't think the factory put a veneer on like some of the other ash models (STA-1 and IB-5)
Pretty sure if you check Andrew O's TLA-1 build diary its doesn't have an ash veneer
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

    Completed builds
scratch oak.rose gum Jazzmaster - assembled needs setup
    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

Meh, so much for my plans.

I was going to just build the LP-1M. That's it. I'm a pretender on the fretboard, so the LP would do.

Then I thought a surf green ST-1 would be nice, but it is now heading towards being a lime wash, Mary Kaye kinda finish.

Now there is a tele in the frame - with a natural finish.

One day I'll get a surf green axe...

Funnily enough SWMBO doesn't seem to mind. I thought her role as Minister for Finance would have kicked in a strangled the game before now.

I suppose it gets me out of her way....

I found Andrew's diary - the grain on that one is very tight. I guess you pay's ya money and ya take ya chances with the grain!

nice deal Rabbitz the minister allowing another kit.
Don't take Andrew's build as how yours will look, there is a big difference in the grain structure of each kit, it's basically a lucky dip

It is no issue woks, If I was doing this for a customer it might be different, but this is just for fun, so it won't make to much difference.

The back up plan is, if the grain isn't good enough I'll buy a tin of surf green...

haha no worries Rabbitz, well another option for a tele build (being a flat top) is glue a veneer to the top as well

You would be surprised how easy it is. You can work pretty much any Stones song from about 1970 onwards in a few minutes. He actually only plays 4 chords in that tuning and just moves them up and down the neck.
