That's a very good question! I think I wasn't precise enough with my lines, both with cutting and laying, so the combined errors have added up. I need to just take more time and more care next time and it should come out better. I do get a little impatient sometimes!

Inlay can be a challenge even for those of us that do it on a regular basis..
So, I give you 9/10 for your first effort!
Keep at it, I am sure you will nail it by your second or third PBG kit

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

Maybe I should put up a tutorial on inlays? Anyone interested?

Yes please! I would be fascinated to see how its done, and if you convince me that I might be able to do a decent job, I'll try it out on my 335.

ID:	5279 I had trouble deciding on a colour for this gorgeous kit. All the photos I found of Gibson's and Epiphones were either natural or dark burst, or the occasional cherry. I preferred the natural, but I fancied something a bit bolder, but still kinda traditional. I found a tin of mahogany stain that was lying around in the shed, and tried it on a patch on the inside, and it didn't look too bad. I masked up the binding and decided to give it a go, figuring a gloss black all over wouldn't look too bad if all else failed! This is what I got, and I was pleasantly surprised. Bold, in a 50's Americana sort of way, but still natural front and back. If it stays nice and bright after the clear coats, I'll be very happy!

Well, now I'm happy with the body colour, it's obvious that the headstock doesn't suit. Well, that has made the decision for me, and tomorrow I will strip the veneer and inlay off the headstock and start again. I plan to stain the headstock to match the body, lay in a simple pattern with a pale veneer and blue abalone, keeping the headstock in it's present shape. Fingers crossed that this works!

the inlay shape looks very cool Dave, hope you can make it work will really give this axe a sweet touch.

Might be worth practicing routing the shape on some scrap wood first before attacking the headstock.

    good luck !
