so Ben you are in Adelaide region. I'd call a few more timber suppliers/yards to see if they have about 3mm thick veneer

Found one that has about 100 different styles of veneer 0.8mm think going to go in once i have stained the wood to match it. i have a scroll saw for the outline how would i go about the pickup hole. also any recommendations on a clear finish would be helpful.

Hi Ben,
you could glue the 0.8mm veneer onto maybe some 3mm plywood if its available in that width.
Have the pickup hole marked out and drill a hole in the centre.
Remove the scroll saw blade and replace the blade so it goes through the hole and carefully cut close to the line. Be easier to clean up with files for the straight edges and a small sanding disc for the rounded ends and then a final sandpapering

Don't I wont it thin not think?
If you're just looking at replicating a Tele pickguard, why not glue your 0.8 thick veneer straight to the plastic one?
That way you can just follow all the lines of the original. Just a thought...
might work Barge, I've never glued veneer onto a plastic pickguard.
Ben you need the pickguard at least 3mm thick, its got to be strong enough to drill holes to support the neck pup and for the mounting screws on the outside

okay I can get them to make it thicker if needed. the plastic idea may work i will buy enough to try a couple of ideas.
Ben if you don't have alot of scroll saw experience I'd try and glue the 0.8mm thick veneer onto the plastic guard.
Worth getting the timber company to cut some 3mm thick so you can have a crack at the pickguard all timber from scratch
