    Let the finishing begin. :)

I have wiped on and waited seven days for the body and the neck to harden.....nice feel to it this time. The body and the neck got a mild scratching and then the neck has had a single soak coat of naughty oil. It will get two more tomorrow and then hang for 7 days to cure.

The body has had a single coat of the Intensifying Coat and will now hang for a seven day or longer period....getting a little chilly here now....busted out the sandals....thongs for summer.

Think 3 naughty oil coats and then 3 wipe-on poly coats for each will be good.....smooth glossy finish. Then auto compounds, polish and wax all round.

I love the grain, smell and feel of DT...it is setting hard and did get a lot darker each day. Different to last time. Love the stuff.

She is done the second time.

I have completed the sanding, pore filling, sanding and more sanding, stain and stain and then 3 x coats (soak coats) of naughty oil, then 4 x coats of minwax oil based wipe-on polyurethane. Wet sand through 800, 1200, 2000 grits, and then medium and ultimate compound rub, then scratch x, then auto body cleaner and then 4 coats of bowdens own auto body wax, then three coats of doctor ducks ax wax all over...strings and all.

I am still hamfisted with sanding.....the edges have ever so slight fading of colour. Bugger. But she is done. For future reference for me....no sanding, wet sanding on the edges where the body curls over from front to back etc.

The surface of both the neck and body is super smooth. I did not get a mirror like finish, more a semi-gloss....bit shinier than satin....but the neck is awesome to play.....and I put a thin shim in the neck pocket to allow more adjustment on the monster bridge. Strings are super low now....and no buzzing. Win.

The truss rod is a one way truss rod. The piece at the end that caused some concern on earlier pages of this thread turns out to be screwed onto the end of the truss rod. So it unscrews and comes completely off if you turn it anti-clockwise. This truss rod will only tighten in a clockwise direction. For me that was no issue. I have a good relief at 0.15 inches.

Some piccies for your eyes and the end of my build....now to play play play.

Oh and I must add. I bought 2 x gotoh 500k pots, one A and one B type for the humbucker pickup. I also added an orange drop 0.47 thingie capacitor to the tone pot. I then put 1 x A style and 1 x B style 250k pots for the single coil, split p bass pickup, with an orange drop 0.22 thingie capacitor on the tone pot. The pots work so smooth....had to use my mini rotary tool to fit the huge pots into the original routing....took all of 30 seconds.

She is definitely quieter, and the tone is deeper and more consistent. I am driving miss "Coolie" as a preference over four other basses at the moment. Nice action, great sound and so smooth in the hand.

The PBH is the best Bass kit I have made so far. The end result is awesome. The stain and figure grabbing effects of Dingo Tone are second to none. Just the finish coat is not to my liking. But we adapt and overcome.

Maybe a Ricky or a stingray next....or even another PBH with a different colour scheme and pickups. Hmmmmm the possibilities are endless.
