You watch Crimson Guitars do the carving with an angle grinder eh? I thought it was a pretty cool idea. I'd like to do a carve on my next build on the lower horn for more upper fret access (especially if it's a 21 fretter).
Cool stuff!
Yeah man, Crimson Guitars, you got it. The one bit of advice I would give is use a very light hand and keep the grinder moving (that was two bits of advice...doh.) Ash is probably a little bit more forgiving but I reckon if you were carving Basswood it would be like a hot knife through butter, it wouldn't be hard to overdo it and really stuff things up.
wow you used a grinder Barge, I could imagine how easy it rips off the wood ! Think I'd end up slicing the horn clean off !
Current Builds and status

Ooooohhhh so you ARE going sandblast? This will be interesting.....
Yeah man.
I thought the sand may have penetrated a bit deeper than it did but it sort of just hit a certain level and didn't seem to go much further, maybe due to the tightness of the grain.
Having said that it's definitely left a really cool effect and popped the grain beautifully, the pictures don't really do it justice but I think once the black goes on and then sanded back it will really pop.
And then on with a liberal coating of DragonHawk tribal black tattoo ink...none more black.
Took the ink back and was pleasantly surprised.
